Benefits of Membership

Membership in the Hemispheric Institute creates opportunities for international learning and builds capacity and resources on its member campuses. The benefits of institutional membership include:

PEDAGOGY AND RESEARCH

  • Developing and teaching team-taught courses with faculty at other member institutions using our virtual learning environment
  • Exclusive access to our teaching modules, archives and other online teaching materials
  • The opportunity for faculty to organize ongoing research groups that advance scholarship on issues of common interest
  • Eligibility for students to participate in our intensive summer course currently held in Lima, Peru, co-taught with Grupo Cultural Yuyachkani
  • Eligibility for students to participate in our intensive summer and intersession courses in Lima, Peru (co-taught with Grupo Cultural Yuyachkani) and in San Cristóbal de las Casas, Mexico.
  • Eligibility for students to participate as interns in Hemispheric New York or at Centro Hemisférico at FOMMA.

PARTICIPATION

  • Participation by one designated faculty member on the Executive Board, which guides the projects and priorities of the Institute
  • Two fully-funded registrations for our Encuentros (valued at approximately $350 each)
  • Priority status for students and faculty in our competitive Encuentro application process
  • The guarantee of one faculty-led work group for each member institution at our Encuentros

BUILDING CAPACITY AND RESOURCES

  • Faculty development, including opportunities for mentorship and collaboration with leading scholars in the field
  • International course offerings, including the opportunity to organize for-credit seminars at our Encuentros
  • Full access to the Institute's digital platform and website, which includes teaching modules, a virtual learning environment for team-teaching and other features
  • Access to Centro Hemisférico/FOMMA, a research and performance Center in San Cristóbal de las Casas, Mexico that is available to members for internships, workshops, conferences and other activities
  • The capability to create a web page on our site to feature Institute-related faculty, students, projects and events at each institution
  • Online access to NYU Libraries for students and faculty participating in Hemi courses at member institutions in Latin America
  • The opportunity to bring affiliated artists to your campus
